DHEC releases Monday numbers

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 590 new confirmed cases and 19 new probable cases of the new coronavirus COVID-19 on Monday. The agency announced 19 additional confirmed deaths and a new probable death on Monday.

The total number of confirmed cases has already reached 123,552, and the number of confirmed deaths is 2,767.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC on Sunday across the state was 5,256 and the positive percentage was 11.2%.

DHEC releases Sunday numbers

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 603 new confirmed cases and 6 likely new cases of the new coronavirus COVID-19, 10 additional confirmed deaths on Sunday. No new probable deaths have been reported.

The total number of confirmed cases has already reached 122,944 and the number of confirmed deaths is 2,748.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC on Saturday across the state was 4,774 and the positive percentage was 12.6%.

DHEC releases Saturday numbers

On Saturday, DHEC announced 918 new confirmed cases and 32 additional confirmed deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 122,313 and confirmed deaths to 2,738.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC Friday across the state was 7,249 (not including antibody tests) and the positive percentage was 12.7%.

DHEC starts reporting cases in SC schools

DHEC unveiled on Friday a new interactive online resource that provides COVID-19 cases associated with students, teachers and staff and all public and private kindergarten-12th grade schools in the state.

This school report panel is available at scdhec.gov/COVID19schools. The information on the school’s reporting panel will be updated twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

Only students, teachers and staff who physically attend school or a school campus on a regular basis will be included in the counts; and some schools may choose to announce cases before they are reflected in DHEC’s fortnightly reports.

Greenville SC is among the big losers in the tourism economy

State parks are thriving and recreational vehicles are accelerating as airlines, hotels and Greenville County struggle as the South Carolina tourism industry tries to cope with changes stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 fell ill and killed thousands across the state since March. Confirmed cases were approaching 120,000 before the Labor Day weekend, and by Thursday, the highly communicable respiratory disease contributed to the deaths of at least 2,667 people in South Carolina.

It also left its mark on the economy, including the South Carolina tourism sector.
