Hennessey faces the 1,000 HP Shelby GT500 against the new Porsche 911 Turbo S

Few things are more fun than a heads-up drag between two incredibly powerful vehicles. In addition to the sport’s obvious instant gratification, it is also a great way to measure performance. That’s why Hennessey recently organized a race between the latest Porsche 911 Turbo S and the store’s 1,000-horsepower (746 kilowatt) Ford Mustang GT500.

By replicating a realistic scenario – and eliminating the traction variable from the equation – both vehicles start at a speed of 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour). Unsurprisingly, the compact car runs for an easy victory over the four-hundred-meter competition. As a small consolation for Porsche fans, we would be remiss not to mention that the two presenters are aware that this is not necessarily a fair fight between the two.

The American tuning company was quick to mention that a standard GT500 would probably lose to Porsche. If you didn’t think John Hennessey already had tremendous confidence in his work, the 911 Turbo S in this video is your personal bum.

Regardless, we are still upset that we have not seen a common drag race between these two. We bet that Porsche’s wild traction could lead him to an easy quarter-mile victory – a half-mile race would be very interesting, but the drag strip on the Penzoil Proving Ground unfortunately doesn’t go that far.

Although the video title includes the phrase street racing, both Hennessey Performance and Engine1 are strongly against this practice; the demonstration in this instance is for testing purposes only. If you want to compete with your friends, do it correctly and safely on your local race track.
