HEB launches COVID-19 vaccine registration portal, but still awaits more doses

SANTO ANTÓNIO – HEB launched on its website a registration portal for people who wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, but there are no vacancies available because pharmacies are still waiting for more doses of the vaccine.

The record will be made available as soon as HEB receives more vaccine allocations.

HEB is currently out of COVID-19 vaccines, but the Texas grocery store owner has requested to receive more.

“As soon as we have the vaccine, customers will be able to schedule at that location. We have no new vaccine distribution at this time, ”spokesman Dya Campos told KSAT.

All previous vaccine quotas given to HEB have been administered to eligible customers in Phase 1A, which includes healthcare professionals, nursing home workers and long-term care facility residents, as well as customers in Phase 1B, which includes people with 65 and older, and people over 18 with at least one chronic illness, according to the website.

HEB has not yet accepted nominations for eligible clients in Phase 1C, which includes essential frontline workers, and in Phase 2, which includes the general public.

Pharmacies will still not accept walk-ins once HEB receives more quota of the COVID-19 vaccine because of the fragile shelf life of the vaccine, which requires it to be used within hours of opening a new bottle, according to officials HEB. Each vial of the Covid-19 vaccine contains 10 doses.

All vaccines that have been allocated to HEB previously have been administered. Campos told KSAT in early January that “as soon as the supply becomes more available, we are prepared to help vaccinate our communities on a large scale”

HEB has ordered more COVID-19 vaccines from the state of Texas and there will be no cost to receive a COVID-19 vaccine from the grocery retailer.
