Heavy snow now going to Colorado

DENVER – It is very quiet early Saturday morning, but the storm is moving and we are going to start seeing a winter mix across the Denver metropolitan area this morning. This mixture will turn to heavy snow this afternoon!

We are still predicting meters of snow along the Front Range, with the heaviest snow in the foothills and mountains in the north of Front Range.

The accumulations will still be impressive near Denver, but probably around 30 to 45 centimeters on Sunday night.

A winter storm alert will be in effect from early Saturday through Monday morning for the entire Denver metropolitan area, the plains and the mountains. Expect heavy snow, poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions this weekend. Many roads are likely to be impassable.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon and gradually subside into Sunday night gusts.

It looks like Denver could see 18-24 inches of snow. The foothills and mountains east of the Continental Division can receive 60 to 48 centimeters of snow. Some mountain locations will end up with about 60 centimeters of snow! The eastern plains will have a mixture of rain and snow, but they should receive at least an inch of welcome moisture (total melt).
