Heavy snow comes tonight

DETROITAN winter weather warning is in effect for Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties from midnight tonight at 10 pm on Sunday.

Fine tune your snow throwers or fine tune to remove snow. Snow is on its way before the end of the weekend. Tonight remains dry and cold. The temperature remains well below zero across the region tonight. Snow comes shortly after midnight. Roads and sidewalks become more treacherous on Sunday, with some of the heaviest snow during breakfast.

Saturday night will be cloudy and cold with constant temperatures in the mid-1920s. Our next snowstorms will be forming in our southwest. The first flakes begin to fall south of I-94, in Lenawee and Monroe counties, around 10 pm and after.

Saturday night will have snow in Detroit and the rest of southeastern Michigan shortly after midnight and Sunday morning. The overnight lows will be in the mid-1920s.

Snow will migrate from south to north overnight. After our South Zone, Detroit and Ann Arbor roads became more slippery, the areas north of Eight Mile Road became more snowy at dawn on Sunday. The cities of Flint, Lapeer and Port Huron will have snow falling for breakfast on Sunday.

Sunday will be cold and snowy. The snow will fall harder, Sunday morning. Light to moderate snow will fall consistently in the late Sunday morning and most of the afternoon. The snow gets a little more dispersed in late Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. The maxims will be in their 30s.

Sunday night is less snowy but still cold – so the roads remain treacherous. Then, the north wind will blow because of the counterclockwise circulation around the low pressure area. The Lake Huron wind, which is mostly liquid, will cause lake-effect snow blows and snow gusts on Monday.

The accumulations will be greatest where the snow starts first. Neighborhoods south of I-94 will receive 10 to 15 centimeters of snow; isolates points, more than six inches. From I-94 (south) and M-59 (north), Detroit, Westland, Ann Arbor to Howell, Pontiac, Shelby Township and Mt. Clemens will be two to three inches. 3 to 7 centimeters of snow will fall north of the M-59.

The highs will be close to 30 degrees on Monday afternoon, as lake-effect snow adds 3 to 7 inches of snow over most of the area.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be sunnier and give Detroit residents time to clean up and recover. Remember not to try too hard. Control yourself and take frequent breaks while removing snow and ice. The maximum will be in the mid-30s, with mostly sunny to partly sunny skies.
