FKA Twigs is talking about the horrible treatment she received from Robert Pattinson fans during her three-year relationship with the actor from 2014 to 2017. In the January 25th episode of GroundedTwigs discussed with presenter Louis Theroux how she faced racism since she was 4 years old before talking about her time with Robert.

“People just call me the most painful, ignorant and horrible names on the planet,” she told the host. “He was their white Prince Charming, and they thought he should be with someone white and blond.”

Robert first gained fame during his stint as Edward Cullen in Twilight, and although he and Twigs were dating two years after the franchise ended, she still faced constant damaging criticism from toxic fans.

“It’s essentially bullying and it affects you psychologically,” said Twigs. “It was deeply horrible and I think it was at a time when I felt I couldn’t talk about it. I feel that if I were going through this now, I would be able to talk about it and do some good with it,” she continued. “But I don’t know if it was because of my age or because of the social climate or because I’m black and from Cheltenham and from a low-income family and having to really work twice as hard on everything I do to get a seat at the table. “

The comments and comparisons were not just petty; they were deeply racist. “Let’s say that if I were wearing a red dress, they would have a monkey in a red dress, or if I was on a bicycle, they would find a monkey on a bicycle,” recalled Twigs, adding that it affected his confidence for a long time. “But for everyone to know, I now love my appearance and I am very confident.”

You can hear her entire interview with Louis in the ninth episode of Grounded podcast.
