On Friday, Kyle Shanahan was asked what specifically in his mind allows Seattle to be successful year after year and if there is anything he could apply to the 49ers that Seattle does. Here is Kyle’s answer:

Shanahan never went around and was as straightforward as any coach in the league when he spoke to the media. For some reason, the media is not displaying these quotes as they do with the initial quotes from Shanahan’s QB.
In that case, Shanahan says what everyone already knows: You need a QB to win in this league. Not just a QB, a healthy one. It is ridiculous to pay more for a reserve quarterback. The Bears gave Nick Foles a lot of money because they weren’t sure if Mitch Trubisky was “the guy”. We saw how it worked for the Bears.
Several fans want the 49ers to update the reserve quarterback in case Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt in the future. If you need to improve your backup quarterback, you need to improve your starter.
While many cling to Jimmy’s “professional” comments, it is these types of quotes from Kyle that say. These quotes happened throughout the season. Kyle is telling us what he thought about the incumbent throughout the year. From the quote above for Nick Mullens to be the “smartest QB” in the room, the football broadcast on Monday night against the Bills – to say that Jimmy didn’t get hurt in the first game in Seattle.
