Years after the news that LeBron James would head a Space Jam Following, fans are seeing the return of Bugs Bunny and Tune Squad for the first time.
HBO Max shared the film’s first official clip (officially titled Space Jam: a new legacy) in a montage of films that entered service in 2021.
The first images show Bugs and LeBron reacting with horror when a monster (or MonStar) shines in front of them in a huge column of light.
Although many highly anticipated box office hits and films were diverted by the coronavirus pandemic, Space Jam 2 was able to end filming in 2019. The audio of that final day showed that James was absolutely delighted to fill the role that was previously held by Michael Jordan.
“I am just a small child from Akron, Ohio – a very small city outside of Cleveland. From a family with only one parent, I am the only child, my mother had absolutely nothing,” said James at the time. “She was walking around the school when she was 16 and was pregnant with me in the second year of high school. So I really shouldn’t be here.”
Since then, we’ve heard little about the film other than a look at the revamped Tune Squad t-shirts.
Space Jam: a new legacy is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2021 on HBO Max and in theaters.
