The toy company announced last week that it is changing all 16 cards in the game’s Community Chest to better reflect what the community means to fans today.
Cards are collected by players and used to distribute penalties or rewards for a variety of reasons, such as winning second place in a beauty contest or being evaluated for street repairs.
“The world has changed a lot since Monopoly became a household name more than 85 years ago and, clearly, the community today is more important than ever,” said Eric Nyman, director of consumption at Hasbro.
“We felt that 2021 was the perfect time to give fans the opportunity to show the world what the community means to them, by voting for new Community Chest Cards,” said Nyman. “We are excited to see which new cards will be voted on!”
Hasbro also announced last week that it will be hosting a Monopoly Charity Classic this spring with four different celebrities who will be playing to earn money for the charity. Fans will be able to watch on YouTube as the game unfolds and get one of the first glimpses of the new community cards.
The updated game with the new community cards is expected to be released in the fall, according to Hasbro.
