It is an exciting time to be a hawk! Earlier this month, the University of Hartford men’s basketball team won their first East American Championship and scored their ticket to the NCAA Tournament! The team’s first trip to March Madness drew attention to the Hawks, generating excitement on campus, in Connecticut and across the country. Discover the “Bairro” – National and International Coverage
As Hartford head coach John Gallagher explained in your multiple appearances in the media, if you are a Hawk, you are part of our “neighborhood”.

During the March Madness race, Gallagher and his players were interviewed almost 100 times on television, radio, the newspaper and online media, including acclaimed basketball analysts Seth Davis, Clark Kellogg, Greg Gumbel and Wally Sczerbiak.

Hawks dominate the local spotlight

The excitement and support for the Hawks’ neighborhood was also on display in Hartford, along with extensive coverage in the local media.

Howie the Hawk was featured on Fox 61’s morning show, where he displayed his dance moves with the Hawks’ flags lined up on Pratt Street in the background.

Hartford Athletics student-athletes Meghan Anderson, Abby Nash and Nyrik Antoine shared their Hawks spirit with Mike Massaro of NBC Connecticut. “You could hear all the fans on the quads and it’s great to see them doing so well, especially in these challenging times,” said Anderson of the team’s victory in the Eastern Championship.

The NBC 30 also profiled a championship celebration that had been in the works for three decades, while Fox 61 highlighted the Hawks’ America East Championship and the historic showdown against the Baylor Bears sown at. 1 at the NCAA Tournament.

Hartford University President Greg Woodward appeared live on Colin McEnroe’s morning show at WNPR, discussing what it means for the University to be in the national spotlight.
