AUBURN, Alabama – In official confirmation of what was an open secret, Brad Larrondo was named associate director of athletics and head of the football team on Sunday. Larrondo has held similar roles at Boise State since 2012.
Auburn’s first-year coach Bryan Harsin made the announcement on Sunday.
“The Auburn family is hiring a high caliber football manager and team builder and culture in Brad Larrondo,” said Harsin. “Even more importantly, this program is receiving a tremendous person of high character in Brad, who values real connection, extreme follow-up and the overall experience of the student-athlete and the team. Your position is of vital importance to the championship program that we are creating day by day here in Auburn. “
At Boise State, Larrondo was the main sports contact with the athletics director, while also serving as chief of staff. Appointed senior associate athletics director as head of the football team in July 2019, he was the main football contact in the athletics department and the head coach contact, assisting in the supervision of the football support team.
Larrondo also provided external support for fundraising and outreach to the community and assisted in the direction and growth of the program. He also worked closely with the Athletics Director on sport management and department-wide initiatives within the department.
From 2017-19, Larrondo was the senior director of athletics for external affairs. He oversaw marketing and promotions, the Bronco Athletic Association, the athletic box office and Bronco Sports Properties.
“The opportunity offered by Coach Harsin and (Auburn athletics director) Allen Greene is something for which I am extremely grateful and I will work tirelessly every day to maintain Auburn’s elite football and athletics standards,” said Larrondo. “Auburn University speaks of excellence at all stages, and being part of the Auburn family is something I know will be a personal and professional life-changing experience.”
Larrondo joined the Boise State athletics team in 1993 as director of sports information, where he was the primary contact for men’s basketball and the secondary contact for football until 2001. During his tenure with sports information, Larrondo also worked with men’s golf and female and male and female cross country.
He moved to the marketing department in 2001, spending the next three years as assistant athletics director for promotions and broadcast services. He was then promoted to senior athletic assistant director for marketing, broadcast services and corporate sponsorships.
Larrondo also worked on radio and television during his career, serving as a color commentator in football and basketball at Boise State, as well as in Idaho Stallion football. He also co-hosted a one hour talk show on Boise State athletics from 1998-2003.
Larrondo graduated in 1993 from Boise State with a degree in broadcast journalism and a master’s degree in athletic administration from the state of Idaho.
