Vice President Harris and her husband, second gentleman Doug EmhoffDoug EmhoffDoug Emhoff, the nation’s first second gentleman, says he will build on the ‘legacy of progress’ of the women who came before him. Harris moved into the residence of the postponed Vice President The Hill’s Morning Report – Biden takes office, calls for an end to the ‘uncivil war’ MORE, were temporarily transferred to Blair House, the president’s guesthouse, an aide to the vice president confirmed to CBS News.
Harris’ move to the One Observatory Circle, the vice president’s formal residence, has been delayed due to “the need for repairs to the house that are more easily accomplished with the house unoccupied.” The vice president’s residence is located at the United States Naval Observatory.
CBS informs that the Navy requested maintenance, which includes replacing the chimney linings.
The second family owns several homes, including a condominium in Washington, DC, but the residence does not adhere to adequate security measures, according to the news agency.
Blair House, across the street from the White House, has been used as a guesthouse for visiting leaders and their delegations since 1942. The historic house also housed President Biden and his family the night before he took office.
It is unclear how long Harris and Emhoff will be at Blair House.
Harris was sworn in as 49th vice president on Wednesday, along with Biden, 46th president of the United States.
The White House did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
