Harris Co. judge Lina Hidalgo announces new COVID-19 vaccine waiting list

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced on Monday afternoon a new COVID-19 vaccine waiting list in an effort to ensure that those who are of high priority are not forgotten. and make the process smoother.

Hidalgo explained the basic principles of how the waiting list will work. Hidalgo was accompanied by Dr. Sherri Onyiego, the provisional local health authority for Harris County Public Health.

The waiting list is said to be weighted and random, which means that the site will not necessarily favor those who have the fastest connection to the Internet. As soon as the portal opens on Tuesday, everyone will be able to register.

If you fall into groups 1A, 1B or the elderly, your application will be weighted by priority and then randomized on the priority list.

The launch of this new portal and waiting list expands the previous process by allowing eligible residents to apply for vaccines on their own, according to a statement from the county.

Eligible residents without Internet access can also call 832 927-8787 once the portal is active to be placed on the waiting list.

If you don’t fit into these three groups, you can still apply, but that means you will be on a waiting list for when the vaccine is opened to the general public.

In addition to the new portal, the public health department will also launch a COVID-19 vaccine data hub. The center will show the availability, distribution and other demographic data of the vaccine.
