Happy residents and visitors understanding the road closures in Miami Beach amid the chaos of spring break

MIAMI BEACH, Florida – Several roads leading to South Beach have been closed in an attempt to prevent the rise in crime and misbehavior during spring break.

Miami Beach city manager Raul Aguila made the big announcement of the closing on Saturday afternoon.

Affects eastbound traffic for the next three nights, from Saturday to Monday, from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am

There are special exceptions for Miami Beach residents, hotel guests and people who are going to work.

“In an effort to diminish the crowds that arrive in the city, we are closing the MacArthur bridge, the Venetian bridge and the Julia Tuttle bridge,” said Aguila.

In short, after 9 pm you can let Miami Beach spend the night, but you can’t come back; not easily, at least.

“This is not an easy decision to make,” said Aguila.

Visitors told Local 10 News’ Saira Anwer that after witnessing the chaos and debauchery of the weekend, they understand why this decision was made, but it still hinders their trip.

On the other hand, Miami Beach residents said they are happy with the sidewalks closing

“You want peace and quiet, you’re spending a lot of money to live in a certain area and you don’t want people to just speed up and down the streets,” said Tom Bronco, a Miami Beach resident. “I think it is a great idea.”
