Taking the dust off his trusted driver, Happy Gilmore – the protagonist of the hit film of the same name in the 90s, played by actor Adam Sandler – took his trademark racing and swinging to Twitter.
The resurgence of one of Sandler’s great characters is to mark the 25th anniversary of the film’s release, and he took the opportunity to take his enemy Shooter McGavin out of the shadows.
“25 years since I did this,” he announced. “I’m scared!”
Never surpassed, Shooter McGavin – Gilmore’s rival in the film, played by Christopher McDonald – fired back.
“It’s all about short play,” he said. “Drive to the show, hit the dough!”
Award-winning actor Ben Stiller, who played the nefarious owner of a nursing home who cares – very badly – for Gilmore’s grandmother, responded to Sandler’s video.
The hit movie became a pop culture comedy benchmark when it was released in 1996, with sports and film fans celebrating its legacy.
“The golf legend lives on forever,” he said.
