Hamilton was a huge success when he made the transition from the stage to Disney Plus last year, however, the musical film may not be the most impressive reimagination of the hugely popular piece. This award can go to Guitar_Knight14, a YouTuber who painstakingly recreated Hamilton’s first act in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The clip, posted in December and on fire this week, lasts more than 70 minutes. It features Hamilton’s music, characters and settings, dramatic camera cuts and everything. Guitar_Knight14 is preparing Act 2, which can be seen earlier if you sign their Patreon.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which revolves around the player turning an arid island into a paradise, features a photo studio for which players are encouraged to create elaborate costumes and costumes. Game developers at Nintendo probably didn’t expect the life and times of one of the founders of the United States to be cinematically created in that studio, but that creativity is the magic behind Animal Crossing. Since the game’s release, players have re-created Pokémon, Pac Man and more.
It’s a beautiful confrontation of two of the biggest pop culture hits of 2020. Hamilton, one of the biggest direct hits to date, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which became a surprise phenomenon when it was released, Switch exactly when the COVID-19 locked the world indoors.
With over 30 million units sold, New Horizons is the second best-selling game on the Switch. Nintendo even updates the game regularly, most recently allowing players to customize their characters with Super Mario items.
