When Halo Infinite released later this year via Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, it will lose one of the most iconic weapons in the series and, according to 343 Industries, it’s because no one really uses it, at least in multiplayer mode. Both in multiplayer mode and in-game campaign, players will have a new automatic rapid-fire rifle for fun, called Bulldog. And instead of having two shotguns competing against each other at the finish line, 343 Industries added the Bulldog in place of the classic and standard shotgun in the game, which is on every areola game since the beginning of the series on the original Xbox.
As you might expect, this decision has sparked substantial controversy and has the potential to cause more reactions at launch if the Bulldog is not up to the task. That said, according to Quinn DelHoyo, chief designer of the game’s sandbox at 343 Industries, part of the reason 343 Industries felt they needed to change things was because the old shotgun was not being used much, which many find difficult believe it, but you would assume that statement is supported by extensive data.
According to DelHoyo, the new shotgun is not as powerful as the old one, but it fires and reloads much faster. Of course, part of the fun of using a shotgun is how it depends on accuracy. If you weren’t needed with your first shots of the old shotgun, it was usually fried. It made using the gun a serious bet, but the feeling when it paid off was great. However, it appears that the Bulldog will be less punitive with its faster rate of fire and cooldown. And it also looks like it could have more overlap with the SMG class, which would negate the purpose of having a shotgun class in the first place.
“The Bulldog is a versatile weapon that provides the player with the role of a shotgun and a close-up style of play more often in multiplayer than in the previous one areola titles as it is lower in the lethality scale of the weapons and therefore more prevalent, “added David Price, the game’s leading weapon designer.
In addition to multiplayer, it remains to be seen what in the campaign will provide the same satisfying feeling of taking down enemies with the punch that the classic shotgun provided. That said, you should imagine that the multiplayer takes precedence over the campaign, as it will be the multiplayer that will keep players for a long time after launch and will generate most of the revenue over time.
