It’s been a while since we saw Halo Infinite in action through new game images, but that hasn’t stopped 343 Industries from continuing to share more about the game on a routine basis. Recently, this studio trend has continued in a very substantial way with the 343 now showing a brand new weapon that players will be able to wield as Master Chief within the highly anticipated sniper.
Featured on the latest Inside Infinite blog on the Halo website, 343 Industries unveiled the first glimpse of Skewer. The weapon is one that did not appear in any previous Halo title and is typically wielded by the Banished, which is a group that will serve as one of the main antagonists within Infinite. The Skewer is described as a powerful weapon and is intended to be more “wild” by nature, since it is a weapon wielded by the Brutes. “Banned weaponry has a more primitive feel than some of the other factions, so it requires a strong sense of organic matter in the content, it helps to give a solid foundation and sell their mechanical nature,” explained the chief sound designer of 343, Kyle Fraser. “Although I mentioned the primitive in the previous sentence, Brutes in general are very intelligent and use this knowledge to incorporate more technological advances in their equipment, so we made sure to bring some interesting elements of science fiction to help sell the fantasy. “
343 highlighted Skewer, in particular, to talk about how the studio approaches the creation of new sound effects for the new weapons that appear in the series. With Banished being a relatively fierce group, the studio had to think a little more out of the box to make Skewer’s sounds much more exclusive.
