Hackers at CD Projekt Red reportedly sold the source code ‘Cyberpunk 2077’

The hackers behind this week’s ransomware attack against Cyberpunk 2077 The Projekt Red studio CD appears to have found a buyer for the stolen data. They held an auction at a hacker forum, but as The Verge notes, they closed it after supposedly accepting an offer from elsewhere.

The initial auction price was $ 1 million and there was an option by the interested party with an extra $ 7 million to buy the data immediately. It is unclear who acquired the data, how much they paid for it or what they plan to do with the information.

Hackers allegedly stole the source code for Cyberpunk 2077, an unreleased version of The Witcher 3 and other games, as well as legal, human and financial resources documents. CDPR said it would not pay or negotiate with the attackers, even if it meant that the hackers could have released the data to the public.

Although the ransomware blocked some devices on the CDPR network, the studio was able to start restoring data from its backups. He further stated that, to the best of his knowledge, systems containing personal data on his players and users have not been affected.
