Gwyneth Paltrow reveals that she received COVID last February, but kept the secret

It is a strange case of life imitating art.

Gwyneth Paltrow revealed in an interview on Saturday with The Hollywood Reporter that she contracted a COVID-19 case in February last year, when the world was starting to pay more attention to news related to the pandemic and quarantine preparation.

However, the 48-year-old actress, who starred in Steven Soderbergh’s prescient 2011 film Contagion, explained to the publication why she did not disclose her diagnosis at the time.

“I understood so early that there were no COVID tests available,” said the Oscar winner.

“We couldn’t even do the test for a long time and, over time, we were able to do the antibody tests and all of that, there were much more serious and important things going on in the world. I didn’t really feel the need to bring it up, but it was interesting. ‘

She also shared that she believes she contracted the virus during a trip to Paris in February 2020, during which, ironically, she posted from the plane and referred to the film Contagion.

To add even more irony, Paltrow played the character ‘patient zero’ in that film, which traced the beginning of a much more lethal version of the coronavirus that the world has been fighting for the past year and a half.

And even though she was not the first person to contract coronavirus in real life, Gwyneth talked about the lasting effects of what has been termed ‘long distance greed’ through her lifestyle brand Goop.

In fact, the star has been the target of much criticism for considering several luxury products an unrealistic and inaccessible way to combat the long-lasting effects of the disease.

However, the mother of two does not let any of this disturb her.

“Usually, I always think it’s for your own amplification,” she said of those who ridicule her.

‘We really shouldn’t say on Goop that we never make mistakes, because of course we did in the past, but we are very honest and careful with what we say. We always feel that we understand why so much of it [criticism] it becomes a click bait for people. ‘

Meanwhile, the passionate Shakespeare star recently told People that she would ‘naturally be open’ to return to acting … but with one caveat.

Gwyneth has largely moved away from life on camera in the past decade, preferring to serve as Goop’s CEO.

She appeared only in occasional Marvel movies like Iron Man’s love interest, Pepper Potts, along with a recent appearance on the Netflix series, The Politician, a show co-created by her husband Brad Falchuk.

“I think if it were a small part that I could do in a day or two, of course I would be open to that,” admitted Paltrow.
