Unfortunately (or fortunately for Shelton and Stefani, who have been together since 2015 and got engaged in October last year), Levine uses an irregular cell phone network in the commercial, so what Adam hears Stefani say is very different. “I’m sick of LA guys, I want someone completely … country,” Levine hears her say, while her service is interrupted. “No culture … and threatened by a strong and confident woman.” Shelton quickly enters the picture, singing about his love of wings and nachos; “I’m with your guy,” says Levine.
When the two finally meet for dinner, they are naturally confused – “I mean, no,” Stefani says of Shelton’s appearance, before pointing out that he used spurs to go to a good restaurant. “Did you ride a horse here?” “Yes,” he replies, incredulous.
