(WBNG) – As vaccines are underway across the country, not everyone is getting the same vaccine.
Some receiving the coronavirus vaccine are receiving the Pfizer vaccine, while others are receiving the Moderna vaccine.
Although there are two separate approved vaccines, Guthrie Hospital’s quality director, Dr. Michael Scalzone, says the two vaccines are more similar than different.
Dr. Scalzone says that both vaccines are mRNA, which means that there are no live viruses in it, and both are designed to trick your body.
Dr. Scalzone explains: “It was designed to make the body think that the coronavirus is there, creating an immune response to protect it the next time. How it happens is different for each type of vaccine. Now, the vaccines Moderna and Pfizer are both similar in how they do this and have similar effectiveness. “
Dr. Scalzone adds that there is a comprehensive system installed in hospitals where patients receive vaccination cards to control who receives what and when.
He also says he believes that both vaccines are safe and effective and encourages people to get vaccinated as soon as they can.
