Guilty Gear Strive shows changes in the Roman Cancel system and other mechanics, professional players and streamers gain early access to the beta

The long-awaited week has finally arrived for the Guilty Gear Strive open beta, and Arc System Works has been keeping people up to date on how to play all of the characters in it to this point.

Now, they have released the final starter guide that examines the mechanics and basic systems available in Strive, including the new Roman Cancel, as professional players and streamers had access to the beta in advance to show the fighting game in action.

There are obvious things like how to guard against movement, although some may joke about blocking something new for Guilty Gear, but there are more interesting aspects than the basics.

Instant Block and Faultless Defense are back for Strive in the same way they worked in previous games, although there seems to be a new layer to combine the two.

While the IB reduces the setback, Instant Faultless Defense carries the denial of damage to the chip and the setback of the FD at the cost of the meter, being even more effective.

Roman Cancels has changed slightly from previous games, with Yellow now being used for more defensive purposes, while Purple seems to have combined with what Yellow used to do to start.

The most interesting and exciting change about the iconic system, however, is the new mechanics that allow players to move a notable distance on activation when a dash is inserted directly before the RC, which opens the door to a ton of new possibilities.

Before pre-orders and the general population plunging into the online world, Arc System Works distributed the first beta codes to the biggest streamers and best FGC players to show matches in real time.

Players in general will be able to download the beta client on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 from February 18 at 7 pm PT, while those who pre-ordered a digital copy can enter the day before.

At the time of the report, the servers are offline again – but scheduled to return today – so archival footage can be found on Twitch for players like Maximilian_Dood, Panda | Justin Wong, Jiyuna, Kizzie Kay, EG | SonicFox is pretty much someone you would expect to enter.
