Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn confirms that Yondu will NOT return as other Marvel characters because his ‘death means something to people’

James Gunn confirmed that he will not bring Yondu back to life in the third Guardians Of The Galaxy movie.

The 54-year-old director revealed to fans via Twitter on Thursday that he did not want the character to come back from the dead like other Marvel characters because his ‘death means something to people’.

Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, died in the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie by saving Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) during an act of heroism.

Despite the fact that Marvel characters like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) managed to get back unscathed after looking dead, it looks like Yondu will not be that lucky.

Responding to questions from fans, James confirmed: ‘As I said before, Yondu is dead and will remain dead as long as I am involved with the Guardians. His death means something to people and I am not going to diminish that. ‘

James also talked about the fan favorite character, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), saying that the character’s current iteration was not the same as it appeared in the first Guardians Of The Galaxy movie.

Referring to how Groot sacrificed himself in the first film, James wrote: ‘Yes, OG Groot is also dead and will remain dead, sorry. The current Groot is your offspring. ‘

James was also asked whether Groot’s new iteration was a ‘son’ or ‘clone’ or ‘brother’, but instead of giving a clear answer, the director said, ‘He is one of those.’

He was then asked if Groot had kept all his memories of the past, and James simply said, ‘No. I always wonder why this is not obvious.

‘Original Groot would know what a death button was. He wouldn’t sleep on Drax’s shoulder. He would not cry when Rocket was being attacked by Ravagers.

Last month, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista were seen filming in Sydney for Thor: Love And Thunder.

Hemsworth plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), while Pratt is reprising his role as Peter Quill or Star-Lord, previously seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films.

Other actors were seen roaming the set, including Sean Gunn dressed in a purple space suit, returning to his role as Guardians of the Galaxy by Kraglin Obfonteri.

In the next issue of Thor, Natalie Portman is back as Jane Foster, and will also take the hammer and become the Goddess of Thunder.

Waititi explained that the new film will be based on an existing comic strip, where Portman’s character, Dr. Jane Foster, takes over Thor’s powers and hammer after he loses his skills.

Natalie was absent in Thor: Ragnarok 2017, but was a key player in Thor’s first two films in 2011 and 2013.
