Ben Affleck will probably never direct this Batman movie he was preparing but he can play with some wonderful toys in a rival studio.

Deadline Affleck reports are attached to direct an adaptation of the Guardian of the Lost Cities, the first in a series of books in progress by Shannon Messenger. The story follows a young woman named Sophie Foster, who has the ability to read minds. Soon she meets a boy who can also read minds; together, they discover that they are from another world, and Sophie has a crucial role to play in their story.

Which, to be honest, doesn’t look much like a movie Ben Affleck would drive. So far, the actor who became an Oscar-winning screenwriter and director has only made bold real-world stories like Argo and The city. Many suits, weapons and F bombs. That’s probably why he is interested in Keeper however, since on paper it looks so out of the box to him. Either way, Affleck is a very talented director with a strong sense of history. Working with Disney on a potential franchise looks like it could be a hit for him.

It is also important to note that this news comes at the beginning of the project’s development. There is always a chance that Affleck will leave or end up just as a producer. Or maybe the script is perfect and the shooting starts as soon as humanly possible. We do not know. All we really know, Disney owns the rights to the best-selling Messenger series, which launched its ninth entry (labeled “book 8.5”), Unlockedin November 2020.
