If you’re wondering why Rockstar is dragging its collective feet to launch GTA 6, here’s a possible reason: GTA 5 it may be seven years old, but it still sold over a million copies in 2020.
Even without the launch of “expanded and enhanced” state-of-the-art versions – not expected to be released until mid-2021 – the Entertainment Retailers Association reports that it is the third best selling title in the UK, behind FIFA 21 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, displacing 1,127,222 copies (thanks, Unilad).
That means it sold even more than new releases, like Animal Crossing: New Horizons (810.5k), Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (665.8k) and The Last of Us Part II (539.2).
In related news, Prime Gaming is currently distributing up to $ 1 million in GTA Online dollars in celebration of the new theft and location of the tropical island.
As we report earlier this week, after claiming your reward, the game money will be paid $ 200,000 at a time to log in each week; enter four consecutive weeks and you will receive a $ 200,000 payout bonus, adding up to $ 1 million in total. You will also receive a free upgrade from the Sonar Station to the Kosatka Submarine immediately after claiming the offer, and you should expect to see the rewards filtered out for your game within 72 hours of activating them.
We are still waiting to learn more about the next destination in the GTA series. As Connor summarized earlier this year, rumors have spun for years about how far GTA 6 is in development, but Rockstar Games remains silent on the issue. It’s safe to say that we’ll get there sometime – and until then we’ll have a new generation version of GTA 5 to keep us busy.
Rockstar Games has committed to give more content to GTA Online solo players in future updates.
