Grimes is auctioning 10 exclusive pieces of digital art – in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) – for the next 48 hours, the singer’s first cryptographic art collection aimed at the growing blockchain collectibles market.
Some of the digital works of art in the WarNymph Collection Vol. 1 – on sale now via Nifty Gateway – is accompanied by exclusive songs created by Grimes; the play “Terra” features the unpublished soundtracks “Ærythe”, “Theme of Mars”, “Mars” and “Death of the Old Man”, contains a demonstration of “Anedonia”. (30 minutes after the auction opened, the price of the last digital work had jumped from $ 111 to, so far, $ 123,456.)
In describing the WarNymph series, in which Grimes collaborated with his brother Mac Boucher, Nifty Gateway said: “Grimes, with the WarNymph project, explores the fluidity of identity in the virtual age: the ability to create, increase and fragment us in an unlimited universe avatars, create unlimited worlds and build rich and complex knowledge. “
A percentage of the proceeds from sales of WarNymph NFT will be donated to Carbon180, an NGO dedicated to reducing carbon emissions.
Grimes is the latest musician to embrace crypto art, blockchain and NFTs: Portugal, Man recently announced plans to launch his own cryptocurrency, Shawn Mendes has made a line of NFT collectibles and artists are already planning ways to use blockchain to connect better with their own fan base, including direct ticket sales and purchase of songs that benefit artists the most.
