Important spoilers for Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy He follows.
We don’t need to ask. No one in the world is emotionally prepared enough for what happened last night’s mid-season premiere Grey’s Anatomy. Meredith Gray, now on a respirator due to the progress of her COVID-19, talks to someone new at Praia do Purgatório and ends up with them staying there permanently. For most of season 17, while Gray struggles with the virus, she has had a frank conversation with old friends who died early in the series, such as George O’Malley (TR Knight). But that person was not here to support Gray, he was there to say goodbye. At an intersection with ABC Station 19Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) was stabbed while chasing a child sex trafficker. Over the Gray episode, there is hope as the talented surgeons rush you into the operating room. But on the beach, DeLuca is frantically building a sandcastle before the tide rises. “I had plans,” he says, in case we don’t understand the metaphor. As his closest friends and colleagues struggle to bring him back to life, DeLuca sees his late mother on the beach and Mer knows it’s time to say goodbye. Instead of being stuck on an endless coastline, like Meredith when Derek came to visit, DeLuca runs straight to his mother and hugs her.
Then, another of Meredith Gray’s great loves ends up dead. Queen of mourning, if Meredith survives the virus, she will probably be fine, reunited with her children. But what will happen to the pleasure queen, Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato)? Your stubborn older sister will not accept this with kindness. What if Meredith does die, will she introduce Derek beach to DeLuca beach? THE Grey’s Anatomy the writers will keep us guessing throughout the season. With renewal negotiations still in progress, season 17 could spell the end for all the beloved characters in the series. Prepare yourself mentally now.
