Grey’s Anatomy fans surprised by character’s death in mid-season premiere

[WARNING: Spoilers ahead about the March 11 midseason premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy”]

Grey’s Anatomy fans cried on Thursday night after the mid-season medical drama premiere killed a beloved character.

Dr. Andrew DeLuca, played by actor Giacomo Gianniotti since 2015, was stabbed while trying to track down and expose a sex trafficker.

In the episode, which was also a crossover with “Station 19”, it looked like DeLuca was going to recover in the beginning.

But then, while on the operating table, he had a vision of the love interest of Meredith Gray, who was in a coma fighting the COVID-19.

DeLuca told her in a dream sequence on the beach: “No matter what, I want you to know that I never felt like you saw me. I never felt inspired by the way you inspired me. You made me want to not just be my best me, but better. And yes, sometimes I felt small around you. I felt insecure. I wanted something from you that I needed to give myself. But here, now, on this beach with you, I understand. I feel. I understand who I am. I know my own soul, my strength. “

“I’m going to miss you. If I come back and you don’t, I’m going to miss you,” Gray told DeLuca.

“You’ll be fine, Meredith,” he said. “I have to go.” Then, he ran another one for his mother who was waiting for him.

While in a coma, Gray also saw and talked to her late husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and TR Knight’s character, Dr. George O’Malley, who died in a 2009 episode.

Meanwhile, fans turned to social media to react to DeLuca’s sudden departure.

“Nooooooooooooooooooooooo, THIS IS WRONG, DELUCA CANNOT BE DEAD,” wrote one person.

“Yes, you know what I’m never going to be okay with,” said another.

“Andrew Deluca is no longer a character that I practically ignored for one of my 2 favorites and now that he is gone, I am heartbroken,” argued another person.

“HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME AGAIN, SHONDA,” shouted a fan.

Gianniotti reacted to the death of his character on social media. “So much so that I could say … but everything that comes to mind is obliged. Thanks to all the fans who loved Deluca as much as I did. Telling your story was and will be one of the great honors of my life. Thanks. @GreysABC, ” he tweeted.
