THESSALONIK – A tax official who was attacked with an ax at his workplace nearly seven months ago died, an administrator at a Greek hospital said on Sunday.

The 56-year-old, who had severe head injuries and was in a coma, died on Saturday, Eleni Takouda, administrator of the private clinic “Blue Cross” in Thessaloniki, told the Associated Press on Sunday.

The official, who was not identified, was beaten when a 45-year-old man entered the tax office in the northwestern city of Kozani on July 16 without undergoing any security inspections, just a temperature check. . Once inside, he took a small ax from a plastic bag he was carrying and attacked the man and two employees on the head and face, shouting “Did you like that?” and “This is what you deserve,” according to witnesses.

It was not clear what the aggressor’s motive was and apparently he was not known to the victims.

A third woman was injured while falling from a ladder while running away in a panic. The man was stopped by two officials who shot at him. He was arrested on the day and charged with attempted murder and multiple aggravated assaults

The victim leaves his wife and a 15-year-old son, according to local media.
