Greece’s center-right government has appointed the country’s openly gay prime minister in a cabinet reform
ATHENS, Greece – Greece’s center-right government has appointed the country’s openly gay prime minister in a cabinet reform on Monday. Nicholas Yatromanolakis, 44, was named the new deputy minister of culture after being promoted from the post of secretary general of the ministry. The government retained its health and finance ministers and most other key positions in the reshuffle. Greece is suffering from the impact of the pandemic that caused an increase in the number of deaths in the autumn and must have caused a contraction of 10.5% of its gross domestic product in 2020. Despite the difficulties, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis left the most of the important cabinet posts unchanged, keeping Christos Staikouras as finance minister and Vasilis Kilikias as health minister. Vaccination was expanded from nine to 50 hospitals across the country on Monday.
