GTA 5’s Lamar toasting Franklin’s memes has continued to prevail in gaming circles for the past few days. The format of the meme, which is something that we reported on ComicBook.com just a few days ago, has only continued to evolve even more since that time. Now, it may have reached its peak with arguably the best iteration of the meme occurring now.
Courtesy of PlayStation Haven, the YouTube channel managed to get real-life actors from Lamar and Franklin to reprise their roles as each character and represent the scene in person. Slink Johnson and Shawn Fonteno, who play Lamar and Franklin respectively, can be seen in the video below acting in the iconic scene of Grand Theft Auto V with absolute perfection. Everything about him, from the way the camera moves to the intonation in the voices of Johnson and Fonteno, is nailed in this reconstruction.
What is most fascinating to me about this whole video is the fact that it exists so quickly. This Lamar roasted Franklin meme format has only gained momentum in the past two weeks, so Fonteno and Johnson came together to represent this scene so quickly it’s a little surprising. I could have imagined that it would become something maybe in a few weeks or months, but for both actors to be able to make it happen at the height of the internet meme’s popularity is a lot of fun. Scream at Fonteno and Johnson for doing this and certainly for putting a smile on the face of many around the world.
