Polyphony Digital’s next long-term entry Gran Turismo franchise has been postponed to 2022, GQ reports. In a statement, Sony said Gran Turismo 7 was impacted by “production challenges related to COVID”, which means that its planned launch date for 2021 has been changed to 2022.
“With the pandemic underway, it is a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have declined in recent months,” says the statement. “We will share more details about GT7release date, when available. “
The news of the game’s delay came the same day that Sony announced a new next-generation virtual reality headset for the PS5. Although it has not yet revealed an official name for the new device, or even a release date, Sony says the new headset will feature an improved field of view, a higher resolution and will work with a new VR controller that will inherit some features of the PS5 DualSense.
Sony announced Gran Turismo 7 for PS5 last year, and at the end of the year, announced plans to release the game in the first half of 2021. It is the first numbered game in the series since Gran Turismo 6 was released in 2013 for the PS3, although Sony has released Gran Turismo Sport for the PS4 in 2017.
