Grammys 2021, originally scheduled for January 31, has been delayed due to concerns over the spread of Covid-19, several sources confirm Rolling Stone. Organizers have not confirmed a new date, but sources say they intend to hold the event in March.
The Grammy had already planned a limited show for 2021, giving up an audience entirely and only allowing presenters and performers on site during the show. The nominated artists would also not be allowed on site, probably leading to a situation similar to the 2020 Emmy, where the nominees appeared and accepted awards remotely.
The 2021 Grammy nominations were led by BeyoncĂ©, who received nine nominations, while Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch followed with six nods each. It is not clear whether original host Trevor Noah is still set to host this year’s show. (Representatives from Noah and the Recording Academy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.)
California as a whole saw an increase in Covid-19 cases after Thanksgiving and the holiday season, setting a new single-day record of 74,000 new cases on January 4, according to The Los Angeles Times. In Los Angeles County, the hospital system has been so restricted that Covid-19 patients are often forced to wait in ambulances for hours until hospital beds are opened, while the County Medical Emergency Services Agency LA instructed ambulance teams to ration oxygen and not transfer patients who have virtually no chance of survival.
