GREENVILLE, SC (WIS) – Senator Lindsey Graham visited the Palmetto State Arsenal in Greenville on Thursday to show his support for the Second Amendment.
Graham fired several rounds of practice at the indoor firing range and spoke about his opposition to the proposed legislation on the Prohibition of Assault Weapons.
“There is legislation being pushed by President Biden to ban assault weapons. We’ve been on this path before, ”said Graham. “In 1994, there was a Prohibition on Assault Weapons – the evidence indicates that there has really been no change in crime, because the crooks are going to get a gun.”
After recent mass shootings in the United States, President Joe Biden pressured Congress to ban assault weapons and close loopholes in the background check system.
“I don’t have to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense measures that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,” said Biden. “We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again.”
One of the weapons Graham used at the firing range on Thursday was an AR rifle – a weapon that Graham says would fall under the Prohibition of Assault Weapons.
“Now, why would anyone need to have an AR-15? If there is a breakdown of law and order, and it can happen, we have seen it happen in our main cities, ”said Graham. “It is not impossible to find yourself in the modern world without any police protection, because that is the way we live in the times in which we live. We are talking about disarming the police ”.
