Governor – NBC 6 South Florida

All Florida residents over the age of 18 will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from April 5º, Governor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday.

DeSantis made the announcement in a video released by the governor’s office, saying that the eligibility age would be reduced to 40 years or more starting on Monday, before lowering it for all adults the following week.

“We have already vaccinated more than 70% of the approximately 4.4 million elderly people living in the state,” said DeSantis. “And we are ready to take this step.”

DeSantis added that more than 400 Walgreens locations would be providing vaccines in the next few days, adding to more than 700 Publix locations, 150 CVS locations and 125 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the state.

“We have made great strides and I look forward to continuing to work hard to ensure that everyone in Florida who wants an injection can have an injection,” said DeSantis, adding that no state mandate would be placed requiring a vaccine.
