– Governor Roy Cooper will update the North Carolinians on the response to the state’s coronavirus on Tuesday at 3:30 pm

On January 6, Cooper extended the order to stay at the state home and the curfew at 10 pm until January 29. Under the curfew, people should only leave their homes if necessary, including work and essential tasks.

During and after the holiday season, the state had its highest total daily cases. As of Monday, January 11, the state had an average of 8,430 new cases per day and 3,866 people being treated in hospitals for COVID-19.

As the cases skyrocket, the state’s effort to vaccinate people against the coronavirus has started slowly.

Many counties started vaccinating elderly people aged 75 and over in the first week of January, but both scheduled vaccination clinics and vaccination clinics quickly ran out of available doses, often before the scheduled start time for the event, rejecting the elderly.

Some counties, including Wake and Durham, will not start vaccinating elderly people in phase 1B until next week. Wake County will begin vaccinations on January 19, the day when a new web portal and telephone line will be unveiled so that seniors 75 and older can register to receive the vaccine.

On Monday, Durham County Health Director Rodney Jenkins said the county hopes to administer 500,000 doses by Memorial Day.
