Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott suggested on Sunday that HR 1, the broad electoral reform bill recently passed by the House of Representatives, could eventually result in Democrats “using cocaine to buy votes”.
Appearing on Fox News’ Sunday morning futures, Abbott insisted to host Maria Bartiromo that the bill that aims to improve access to voting would actually try to “institutionalize electoral fraud in the United States of America” because it would expand the use of voting by mail.
Describing his time as Texas Attorney General, the governor then recalled an “incredible story” about buying votes. “It was Barack Obama himself who knew about the dangers of harvesting votes in the state of Texas,” he told a credulous Bartiromo. “Because under his administration, he sent his US attorney to the South Texas District, as well as the FBI to South Texas to arrest and prosecute people who were involved in collecting votes who were using cocaine to buy votes through the process of collecting votes in the state of Texas. It is a way of committing electoral fraud and cannot be allowed ”.
Bartiromo exclaimed in reply: “This is absolutely extraordinary, governor!”
