Gov. DeSantis extends state of emergency for COVID-19 pandemic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday extended the state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic by another 60 days.

“While Florida is recovering and relaunching its economy, I am committed to providing all the resources available to help Floridians and local communities in their efforts,” said Tuesday’s request.

The extension retained Jared Moskowitz, director of the Emergency Management Division, as coordinator of the state’s response to the pandemic.

With an initial version issued on March 9, DeSantis’ orders allowed the governor to direct funds where needed for supplies, equipment and personnel, allow out-of-state medical professionals to practice in Florida and pharmacists to prescribe emergency refills for up to 30 days prescription drugs.

An earlier extension was issued on November 3.
