Gophers sweep with 10-2 win

MINNEAPOLIS – After more than 17 years without scoring 10 goals against an opponent, Gopher’s men’s hockey program # 4 did it in consecutive games this week after a 10-2 victory over Arizona State on Friday afternoon at the 3M Arena in Mariucci.

Minnesota (13-3-0 overall, 9-3-0-0-0-0 Big Ten) achieved his sixth win of the season after starting the series with a 10-0 win on Thursday night. The last time Minnesota scored 10 goals or more in a game before this week was a 10-3 victory over Minnesota State on January 17, 2004.

Fourteen Gophers scored points towards the end of the series, including eight multi-point performances. Blake McLaughlin and Jack Perbix led the way with three points each, as the two strikers contributed two goals and an assist. McLaughlin ended the series with seven points (four goals, three assists).

Minnesota and Arizona State (5-13-2) exchanged goals in the first period, before the home team put a little distance between the teams by defeating the Sun Devils 3-1 in the second period. The third period was all Maroon & Gold, as the Gophers scored six times in the last frame.

Jared Moe (2-0-0) made 19 saves in 21 shots to secure Minnesota’s victory, while Evan DeBrouwer (3-9-1) suffered defeat to the State of Arizona by making 37 saves in 47 shots.

The Squirrels passed the Sun Demons by 47-21 that night.

Minnesota returns to the Big Ten play next weekend with a series of two games at Ohio State. The action starts on Friday, January 29 at 17:00 CT (TV: Big Ten Network; Stream: FOX Sports App; Radio: 1130 KTLK-AM / 103.5 FM) with the series final on Saturday, January 30 at 4:00 am CT (TV: Big Ten Network; Stream: FOX Sports App; Radio: 1130 KTLK-AM / 103.5 FM).

Noteworthy

One night after adding his first points as Gopher with two assists, Carl Fish added his first career goal at the end of Friday to end the series with three points for Maroon & Gold.
