In November, Google announced that files from Docs, Sheets, Slides and other workspace files will count towards storage limits. This is set to start for personal accounts on June 1, but Workspace users will receive an extension until 2022.
Google Workspace accounts, as well as free personal users, are still set up to have their high-quality uploads to Google Photos counted in their Drive quota in June. There is no change in this milestone.
However, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, forms or Jamboard files recently created by Workspace users will not be counted in storage until February 1, 2022. In the meantime, existing files for these products will also not be counted in storage “a unless “was modified on or after February 1, 2022.” Google Keep and Sites remain exempt from these rules.
Today’s administrators can check the Apps usage user report (General> Photos and Drive sections) for a “comprehensive view of storage usage” in their organization. However, Google is working on new space management tools.
This delay arises from Google’s wait to ensure that these “new administrative tools to identify and manage how storage is used and allocated” are in place before the policy takes effect.
We decided to postpone counting Google Docs, Sheets, Presentations, Drawings, Forms, or Jamboard files for storage quotas until the tools are implemented.
