Google search results can provide more information about a website before you visit it

Google is introducing a new feature to help you find more information about the sites that appear when you use its search engine. As long as you live in the US, starting today, you will begin to see a three dot icon next to each search result. Touching one of them, whether you are on your cell phone or desktop, will open a description of the site at the other end of the link.

In most cases, this information will come from Wikipedia, unless Google indicates one of its services, in which case you will receive a synopsis of how the data was obtained. In cases where neither is available, you get some basic information about the site, such as when it was first indexed. In each instance, there will be an observation if your connection to the website is protected by HTTPS.
