Google Pixel phones hit by daylight saving time (DST) bug

As daylight saving time began this morning in the US and Canada, some Google Pixel phones have not been updated and have exceeded the prescribed time. Fortunately, a quick reboot fixes Google’s Pixel DST bug.

There are several reports this morning from Google Pixel owners in all generations that have not jumped from 2 am to 3 am. For some, this issue has enabled the feature “Automatic clock at home” the Google Clock app when you’re “traveling in an area where the weather is different ”a“ home clock ”is added. The appropriate time appeared for these users in the Clock app, but not for the system.

Google’s Pixel phones have historically seen no problems with daylight saving time, with reporting problems today using the default preference for “network-provided time” and “timezone” (Settings> System> Date and time).

The fix is, fortunately, a simple reboot of the Pixel, but that was still an inconvenience for some. Nest Hub and other assistant Smart Display owners did not encounter this problem today, and Google had a fun social post about it.

This does not appear to be a universal problem – since our state devices have not been affected, but there have been a surprisingly large number of reports in the past few hours, and users who depend on their Pixel for the time (and alarms) have been bothered thinking about changing the Today’s daylight saving time would be delivered automatically as before.

The company didn’t recognize the bug, but Made by Google did (in a very fun way) tweet about DST, Pixel and Pi Day this morning.
