The two most notable developments in 2020 in relation to Google Photos were the end of support for unlimited free storage and the redesign that revolved around Memories. However, the latter affected only the application, while the web experience remained basically the same. This is changing, however, as Google is releasing an update for the web client that offers a similar experience.

First identified by 9to5Google, the new design introduces an Explore tab that is equivalent to the Search tab in the mobile app. Here, you can browse your media with the help of three categories: People, Places and Things, or even classify it based on the type of media (ie screenshots, videos, moving photos, etc.).

Although you can access your favorites from this tab, there is also a dedicated Favorites tab in the navigation menu that will allow you to jump directly to your Starred media. What is still lacking in the web experience, however, is access to Memories, which features a personalized collection of photos, grouped by date or a common theme – scenic sunsets and cooking adventures, for example.

At the time of writing, the new update did not appear to have been widely implemented. Since I was only able to identify you in one of my three accounts, you may have to wait a while.
