Google launches new mobile search design

On Friday afternoon, Google announced the start of the launch of its new mobile search results design. I now see this new design and would like to share some side-by-side comparisons of the old with the new design for consultation. I covered the ad on Friday in Search Engine Land when it was announced, but it should now be widely publicized now.

Google said that the design makes it easier to read the search results, the results are cleaner and simpler and have a more modern experience. Here is a side by side for you to compare; click to obtain an increasing resolution of each image:

I doubt that these changes will have any significant impact on the clickthrough rates of the old version, but it gives a slightly more current appearance.

Ah yes, Google has been testing these new design layouts for several months. I realized this in October 2020 and variations of these tests in December 2020. So, we saw it coming.

Do you have questions about this new design? I don’t even see complaints in the main Google Search forums …
