In September, Google launched a Pixel 4a 5G mmWave model that was only available from Verizon. In addition to the cellular radio that provides access to faster speeds, it is available in “Clearly White”, although that color is reaching the unlocked Pixel 4a 5G.
The Pixel 4a 5G “Just Black” is quite simple, except for a light blue lock button. At launch – as with the $ 349 Pixel 4a, buyers were upset by the unique color option.
If you wanted a different color, the only option was to buy the unit from Verizon. Available in Clearly White with a mint button, this unit costs $ 100 more at $ 599, given the inclusion of mmWave for Verizon’s UW network.
Google said The Verge today the $ 499 sub-6 Pixel 4a 5G will arrive in Clearly White on January 28. It is not yet listed on the Google Store for ordering, while a previous B&H listing has been removed. It will probably also be available in the Google Fi store.
The Pixel 4a 5G has a 6.2-inch screen slightly larger than the Pixel 5. It is powered by a Snapdragon 765G with 6 GB of RAM and 3,800 mAh. These last two specs are slightly worse than the flagship phone, but other than that, it’s the same processor. Most importantly, the dual lens configuration of a 12.2MP rear camera and 16MP ultra-wide camera. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is a key component, although it has no wireless charging or IP protection.
End-of-year and exchange buyers may be a little offended by Google’s launch of a new color after the gift season, but it won’t arrive until February. It turns out that Google is aggressively encouraging people to purchase the Pixel 4a 5G.
