Google is primarily an advertising business, although in recent years the company has introduced many paid services: YouTube Premium, Google One, Fi and Stadia Pro come to mind, among many others. There was never a central hub where you could find Google subscription offers, but now that’s a thing of the past: you can see all the company’s paid services in one place on the Google Store.
The new ssubscriptions category lies in the top navigation of the site, among the Pixelbook and Special offers, replacing the Accessories previous section (which you can now find in the submenus of other categories). Signatures are classified into four groups:
- Programs and music: YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium
- Games: Stadia Pro, Google Play Pass
- Storage and security: Google One, Nest Aware
- Phone plan: Google Fi
All plans have a To know more link that takes you to the respective service with more details and options or instructions on how to sign up.
It is not clear why Google decided to add its central subscription hub to its hardware store everywhere, but it can suggest plans to make the Google Store more than just a place to get phones and devices. With the Play brand slowly disappearing, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Play Store were ever incorporated into the Google Store.
