Google gives recent Pixel device owners more control over Night Vision

Thanks to its latest update, the Google Camera app now allows you to permanently turn off the Automatic Night Vision feature on devices that automatically activate low light photography mode, 9to5Google reports. The feature is available in version 8.1.200 of the application, which started to be released on Monday. In addition, the update allows you to disable the mode in the application’s flash settings.

When Google launched the Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 last year, it adjusted its camera apps to automatically activate Night Vision mode in low light conditions. But using the feature means that photos take longer to capture, so there will inevitably be times when you don’t want them to be activated automatically. Annoyingly, like 9to5Google notes, the toggle button to turn off this feature (in the lower right corner of the Camera app) would be reset previously whenever the app was closed. As of this latest update, Auto Night Sight now remains disabled when you close the application.

In addition to allowing users to permanently turn off Automatic Night Vision, the latest version of the application also adds a night vision button to the application’s flash settings. The update does not appear to be available for older Pixel phones, which require users to manually activate Night Vision in low-light conditions, instead of automatically activating it.
