Google disables the Great Suspender extension, says it “contains malware”

The Great Hanger has just been expelled.

Users of the popular Chrome tab management extension were greeted with an unwanted message from Google on Thursday, alerting them to the fact that their beloved add-on may have ulterior motives. Specifically, Chrome has warned that the Great Suspender “contains malware”.

The message was accompanied by a semi-cleavage of the Chrome extension, and a loss of all suspended user tabs along with it.

Poof.

We contacted Google, owner of the Chrome browser, for details on the alleged malware, but we did not receive an immediate response. At the time of this writing, the attempt to pull the Grand Suspender from the Chrome Web Store led to an error page.

However, this was not the first warning about the apparently incomplete extension. In early January, the Register, a technology news publication, reported on Great Suspender’s concerns since November. At the same time, Microsoft Edge blocked the extension.

That message clearly didn’t reach many fans of the apps, at least some of whom are now mourning the loss of guides.

And while losing guides can be temporarily annoying, we somehow think they will recover.
