Google confirms plans for new line of Nest cameras this year

Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is no longer available for purchase, Google confirmed 9to5Google, after the website realized that the camera was out of stock in most countries in the world. The company says, however, that “Nest will continue to invest in innovations”, including a “new line of security cameras for 2021”.

For now, Google still sells the $ 129 in-house Nest Cam, the $ 299 in-house Next Cam IQ and the $ 199 in-house Nest Cam. IQ models have up-to-date video quality and AI-based features like face and pet recognition. Google says it will continue to support existing Nest cameras with new features and security updates. None of the current hardware is more recent than 2017, so an update is probably delayed.

Google has not provided details on what the new line of Nest Cam cameras will actually include, or when it will arrive, but it is not necessarily surprising to see the company anticipate the announcement. The Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 were revealed months before their actual shipping date, while Google tweeted a photo of Pixel 4 the previous year in an attempt to prevent inevitable leaks.

Google also appears to be working on a new Nest Hub with support for Soli radar gestures, as indicated by a recent FCC filing.
